The programmability of the mouse overall is nice, and I adore being able to quickly switch the free-spinning wheel on or off. I don't use the thumb scroll as much as I thought I might (too much muscle memory from Shift-Scrolling instead, i guess), but it could be handy. The flat thumb-"button" is kind of awkward for regular use, so I mapped the "Change Pointer Speed" to it since I don't use that feature often. In the Control Panel, Mouse section, Wheel tab, Horizontal Scrolling section, the minimum value that you can enter is 1, not 0. The customization options are nice-having different mappings for different programs is theoretically very useful, though I don't take advantage of it. I tried the tablet approach instead, but never could get a good workflow using multiple monitors. As a workaround, users can click into the web-part area and then press the left and right buttons to scroll. I used their M570 trackball for a couple years because mice were giving me wrist/forearm pain. I'm more of a claw/fingertip guy, and the vertical mouse seemed to favor a palm grip which just feels wrong to me. Tried the vertical mouse thing for a year, and that just led to a different kind of pain, applying all the pressure to the side of my wrist instead of to the flat part beneath the palm. I've been using the Logitech MX Master 3 for years (from before the 3S came out).
